“I sit here on this corner every morning. I’m a musician. I play the guitar mostly in the evenings. If I could tell the world one story it would be that I have ankylosing spondylitis. It causes the vertebrae in your spine to fuse. About 30 years ago, a fellow musician was driving me home from a gig. He was going too fast and wrapped the car around a tree. My neck was broken. I started taking oxycodone for the pain and became addicted. Now I’m drug free. Have been for ten years. I still live in pain but I manage it. We all have our crosses to bear.”
