“I want to show you my scar.”
She stretches out her left arm to reveal a long and wide scar that starts at the pit of her elbow and ends at the place on her wrist where a nurse might check a pulse.
“I did this to myself. Six years ago I was lonely and distraught and I didn’t know what else to do. I wanted to stop feeling the pain I felt in my chest. So I did this.”
She looks down at her arm. “So many tears.”
“The next day when I woke up in the hospital, it was like I had received a gift from heaven. I was reborn that day. December 21—that’s my rebirth day.”
